Even if you live in a cozy bungalow, you don’t need to give up style. Years ago, people bought homes that tended to be bigger than nowadays. The furniture was almost all oversized. Excessive homes; overdone furniture were both in style back then. Now, consumers are more savvy and are seeking smaller sized furniture as they streamline their living space. SOHO lofts, sea bungalows; or a townhome next to the bay in San Francisco, various living spaces are smaller than home in the suburbs.
Years ago, the only smaller scaled furniture was basically, the kind of furniture college kids have in dorms. There was no style, no trend-factor; nothing noteworthy. It seemed as if small furniture meant scaling back on quality too. If you wanted small furniture, it meant having few choices of fabric. Style, design, classy, quality, trendy, stunning…none of those words would apply to small furniture in days past.
Many furniture and home design and décor stores now have collections for small spaces. One prominent and popular upscale furniture maker has literally redesigned and scaled down part of their gorgeous furniture and accessory collection. Now, the person that could never have their furniture because of it being too big for their homes, has a whole new shopping experience awaiting them.
Typically, couches come in 6-8 foot lengths. Five-foot loveseats might be available, but good luck if you need a sofa in any other length. Now, you have many choices. More furniture makers are producing modular styles, where you can buy the seating arrangement you need; can place as many or as few together to get the desired length of seating you want. Dining tables are usually 6 or 8 foot long; sometimes you can find a 4-foot table, but typically, it will look like a “kitchen table” rather than a classy dining piece. Now, you have many more options available for smaller and narrower dining table options.
Now you have depth options too. Customarily, a traditional couch depth is about 37″ and a deep or “luxe” couch is about 42″. Currently, couches with depths of 28″ are available. That slimmer depth gives you more space to make pathways or add other pieces.
